[She's not sure if she ever thought that they'd fall into labeling whatever it is that they were. They'd decided that they were "good" again and they'd been spending time with each other, but dating seemed to put some level of expectations on them.]
for a moment I thought you meant werewolves
I wasn't aware we'd gotten down to putting it to that term, though.
[there's no reply to the text. instead, about ten minutes later, her door is sliding open and isaac steps in. as easy as it usually is to relax around hayley, this time he's the epitome of nervousness. he's never had to have a conversation like this one before, so he really has no idea where to even begin.]
[She's reading a book. Not that it's an interesting book, but it's something to do to pass the time. She'd picked it up on one of the random stations.]
You are really nervous. [She can probably pick up on the heartrate at the very least.] Sit down before you talk yourself out of it.
[a half-hearted attempt at pushing past that nervousness, but one that falls flat. instead, he heads over to take a seat, putting more distance between them than he usually would.
[Hayley smiles over at him, leaning forward and resting her elbows against her knees. She shrugs a bit.]
I'm not exactly an expert here. [She's never really had a relationship. She had a kid at 21 after a one night stand.]
I mean, I haven't been with anyone else here - back home things are too complicated to even think about. But if you want to keep it casual - I'm not going to be some clingy girl asking you how serious you are about me.
The stuff back home-- It doesn't matter right now.
[for either of them. she's told him about klaus and the baby, and he's told her about allison (sort of). but while klaus may not be here right now to ruin whatever this is between them, allison is.
but that's over with. dead before it even began.]
I don't think I can do casual with you. [which, okay, maybe that'd place him as the clingy one. but he has a point to this]
You're pretty much the closest friend I have here. But we...do stuff I wouldn't do with anyone else here. [and no, he's not just talking about sex.] I don't know what it makes us, but I know I don't want this with anyone else.
[Even as he explains things from his perspective, she doesn't move from the bed she's seated on. He placed that distance between them and even if he's expressing certain things, she's still not going to try and force closeness. She knows that she could go home and it could all change again - that he could leave and the same might be true for him. There's an inherent risk in falling for people on this ship, one that's far more difficult to cope with when things go wrong. You can't just unfriend someone on board - there's a chance they could leave and return without knowing you at all.]
It makes us an us. I don't think we need to worry about what to name it, as long as we both agree that we're in this together. [Her head cants, looking over at him.] I don't want what we have with anyone else, either. [In case he wasn't sure.]
[he's silent for a while, taking the time to process her response. it's obvious the moment he does though, a smile growing widely across his face when it finally sinks in that they're both on the same page about this. that she feels the same way he does.
the distance between them seems pointless now, so he doesn't waste time in getting rid of it. in sliding across the gap in a move he'd like to believe looks smoother than it actually is. it puts him close to make contact, a simple press of his leg against hers at first.]
Us, huh?
[he finally looks back up at her, still slouched, but far more comfortable than he was going in to this. the difficult part is over with, which means there's no reason to be nervous anymore. it actually went well.]
[he doesn't say anything in response. instead, he simply climbs back to his feet, taking hayley's book with him so he can put it on the table instead. it's with an (attempted) innocent look on his face that he turns back to her. another few moments pause and the he's pulling his shirt off.]
I can think of a few ideas.
[though most of them end the same way. hint, it involves a lot less clothing than they're wearing right now.]
[there's a part of him that wants to refuse, simply because he wants to see hayley take something off first. but the fact she's relaxing, the fact she's purposely watching him. it's enough to keep that request to himself.
well, he's at least toeing off his shoes for now.]
You didn't even say please.
[though given the fact he's working on the fastening of his belt now, that "please" is clearly not necessary. although--]
I guess you could always help me out to make up for it.

Hey.
[well, it's a start?]

You are really nervous. [She can probably pick up on the heartrate at the very least.] Sit down before you talk yourself out of it.

he needs to focus.]
So how do we do this?

Maybe we should do something to celebrate.

So smooth, Lahey. [Not that she minds. It's not as if they're trying to cross some imaginary line that hasn't been crossed before.]
I'm sure you have something in mind. [smirk]

What a creative choice. [She's teasing, but she's also not complaining.]
Don't stop on my account. [Hayley will just lean back for the moment.]
