[She looks at it for a while. She can only assume that Isaac knows Tyler and that she'd come up in casual conversation. Maybe a werewolf of the month club. Then Tyler went off and didn't really want to give details. Not that they matter. The details probably just make it worse. The point stands that now she's supposed to give details and it'll only dig her into a bigger hole.
Tyler's already made it clear where she stands and when you're in space and without anyone that you can consider a friend...]
I made the wrong choice. I got friends of mine killed, because I thought I was doing the only thing I could at the time.
[She sends that and figures that's going to be enough. It's confirmation that it was her fault. That she's the reason they're dead. Even Tyler's mom.]
Unless you want a more general klaus and tyler history without my screw-ups in there.
[only a word in and he knows- well, he should be deleting this already and forgetting all about contacting her. too bad he's not so good at doing the right thing]
wolves are meantto run hottter than humans so whyy cant i feel my fingerrs
[Tyler debates after his call to Caroline whether to try to contact anyone else -- and it weighs on him particularly in this case but she did seem concerned during the mutiny stuff and if she can try to send an olive branch -- well it's not forgiveness but he's trying.
too bad this message is coming out jumbled, out of order, and static as heell. Sorry Hayley.]
Hey. I thought you should know, I'm heading to see if I can help. When I was stuck in that charlotte's girl memories.
I know, I'm being to see if I can help. When I was stuck in that charlotte's girl memories.
I know, I'm heading an idiot. Hey. I thought you should know, I'm heading into engineering into engineering an idiot. Hey. I thought you should know, I'm heading an idiot. Hey. I thought you should know, I'm heading an idiot. Hey. I thought you should know, I'm heading into engineering an
[ because technology sucks but he finally figured out she was here, and her presence changes his plans entirely. she is his top priority for too many reasons to consider. briefly, he wonders how much she knows. when is she from? he can't know until he speaks to her, unfortunately. ]
Hayley. [ said evenly, with certainty. he obviously knows he she is. ] It's Elijah. Are you safe?
[There's something odd about knowing a name but never actually hearing the voice. You can put a face to a name and a face to a voice, but can you put a voice to just a name? Her fingernail taps on the enamel of her teeth, trying to figure out what the angle is here. She knows his name, can hear a bit of something she can't place in his tone. It's clear that he's Klaus' brother and maybe even with Katherine not actively going after her, maybe she still needs protection. From Tyler... from - from Shane? Silas?]
Elijah. [She says his name slowly, almost unsure of herself and actually starting a conversation with him. Ever since arriving here she's done so much to distance herself from Klaus, to peel herself away from the foundation of betrayal that her confiding in him had unfortunately provided.]
[it's a message sent a few days after turning up at ric's door. something he ends up writing out of a need to put some distance between himself and the people who know just what he's really been up to over the past couple of weeks. hayley might ask questions, might look for clues, but she's never pushed him for more than he's been capable of giving. not yet.]
[It's not that Hayley doesn't want to know, she does. Actually, she really wants to know what's been going on with Isaac. It's just never seemed as though he's the type to let her just ask and then give her the answers. He's always seemed comforted by the fact that she doesn't ask and given what she's seen of his past, she can understand wanting privacy. She figures that one day he'll trust her with it and for now, she'll take that.
It doesn't mean if she's concerned or thinks that he's in danger that she won't go to someone, though.]
yeah, of course. you can stay as long as you need.
[it's the morning of what should have been the aftermath of his shift. still early enough that he keeps himself hidden beneath his covers in the hopes of not waking up his roommate. if he has to explain this conversation to somebody else, he knows he'll only end up backing out. but she deserves better than that. she deserves to know just what's going on right now, through more than just an overheard conversation.]
i'm sorry
[because that's the most important point he needs to get across.]
[She wants to just ignore it. It had only been a matter of time before he ended up like the rest of them. The text comes randomly and she reads it but goes for a run first. She wants to clear her head, because if she replies straight away, she might say something wrong. In the middle of her run she stops and sends him a reply.]
[Caroline being missing...finding that dumb wood box Klaus made for her -- once again Tyler finds that rage of his clawing at his throat and maybe it's the lack of knowing what else to do that leads him to reaching out to Hayley.]
[To be fair, she isn't currently wearing said hoodie. It's folded and sitting on top of a nearby dresser. She's contemplated just leaving it outside his door, but the fact of the matter is that this is a ship of scavengers and she didn't want to be responsible for it getting stolen. Her plan had been to just bring it to the next jump and lock it in her locker and hand it to him when she saw him. There was no real point to her trying to bring up that he'd left things in her room. She didn't need to have him trying to figure out the path of least resistance to getting his things back and she didn't want him turning Derek into some go-between.]
it's on my dresser. I didn't take you off the access to my room. you can get it whenever you want.
[he's sat outside her pod, hands stained red with the proof of just what he'd been up to only a short time earlier. the face on her pod is gone, erased with a lot of hard work and wet towels.
it doesn't matter though. doesn't matter that the smell is still fresh in his nostrils. that he couldn't see it as anything other than blood on his hands as he'd scrubbed away. what matters instead is that hayley is still locked away inside the pod. that the chance of her being sent back again is high.
that he may never get to apologize.]
I'm sorry.
[well, it's a start. and one that ends up muttered in to his communicator. a message left sitting in her inbox despite the fact he's staring up at her as he speaks]
I'm an idiot, and a hypocrite, and I'm sorry.
[a sigh, and his head drops to rest on top of his folded arms, knees drawn to he chest to take up as little space as he can.]
I miss being able to talk to you the way we used to. And I know it's my fault. You didn't--
I told you about Allison and you never held that against me, even though we both knew I'd end up picking her. I guess we can't change what's gonna happen, even if we want to.
[see: hayley sleeping with klaus. see: allison dying. there's a bump as he hits his head against the pod behind him. a thump to make himself focus on the here and now. not the thoughts that've keep him distanced from the pack for the past month]
I don't hate you. For a while, I wanted to. But I can't. You're pretty much the closest friend I have here, and I guess I'm being selfish or whatever but I don't want to lose that.
So you've gotta wake up, punch me in the face and call me an idiot. Just--
Make sure you wake up here, okay?
[and then the transmission drifts back in to silence for a few more minutes, before cutting itself off.
[It takes her a while to even figure out if she wants to listen to the message. She starts and stops it, just to get it to stop signaling to her that it's new and unheard. Absently, she thinks about listening to it a few times, but she spends most of her time in the upper decks of the ship, the empty abandoned floors in her wolf form. When she's not there, she's in the gardens. It's easier to be the wolf and not have to answer questions that she doesn't really have the answers for.
It feels like a step back, a regression of sorts, but here she doesn't have something to keep her occupied. There's no pack for her to reclaim, no witches' influence to pull the wolves away from. No family to convince her that they'll get her daughter back home sooner rather than later.
She leaves the bar later than she had expected to one night and when she gets back to her room she listens to it. She knows he hasn't been on the same floor - she hasn't caught his scent or seen him anywhere near the rest of his pack. A touch of guilt hits her, but it doesn't last very long.
For a moment she wonders if she should just call or try to track him down, but in the end she just sends him a message.]
I woke up here, for the record. I'm not going to punch you in the face.
You were an idiot, though.
Edited (I changed my mind while writing it...) 2014-11-24 23:44 (UTC)
[it's late afternoon when the message comes. one that she may not be expecting, but had only ever been a matter of time on his end. now that he's up and moving again and mostly in one piece-- well, it's time to make all those decisions he'd previously been putting off.]
So...if I asked to come over tonight, you'd say...?
[It is really out of nowhere - at least in her mind. Even if they'd managed to talk things through and he seemed okay, she does still have a feeling that it's because he doesn't have that reminder of Klaus walking around with her. That his inability to separate this ship with home had been something that had hurt.
There's also the thought that she's still unsure what she's doing about Elijah... the way he looks at her now, she knows that he sees her differently. It doesn't change how she feels, though.
